One UI 8 Updates: Full Changelog

Samsung One UI is one of the most popular and highly customizable Android operating systems. With its large device library and long software update promises, Samsung releases major updates with significant new feature additions regularly. Over the last few years, Google and Samsung have worked together closely on cross-platform features, and Samsung devices have been among the first to receive new Android capabilities.

Since Samsung rolls out updates very frequently across a large number of devices, keeping track of every change is difficult. Here is the full One UI 8 changelog with every version and new feature from the first beta to the current stable release.

One UI 8.5

Stable RolloutMay 6, 2026

One UI 8.5 is the mid-cycle update for One UI 8, released alongside the Galaxy S26 series. It is the most significant update Samsung has shipped since One UI 7 and brings a full visual overhaul called Liquid Glass, a completely reworked Bixby powered by Perplexity AI, new AI-driven camera and communication tools, AirDrop cross-compatibility, and major DeX upgrades. Stable rollout began in South Korea on May 6, 2026 and expanded globally from May 11, 2026.

Design and visual changes

  • Liquid Glass UI: a complete visual redesign with translucent, frosted-glass surfaces across the entire system interface, inspired by the look of physical glass with light and depth.
  • Redesigned Quick Panel with full customization of tiles, layout, and order.
  • Updated system icons, animations, and transition effects throughout the OS.

AI and Bixby

  • Bixby is now powered by Perplexity AI, bringing significantly smarter responses and real-time web knowledge to the built-in assistant.
  • Call Screening AI: Bixby can screen incoming calls and summarize the caller's intent before you pick up.
  • Text-based Photo Assist: describe what you want changed in a photo using text and the AI applies it.
  • Creative Studio: a new AI creative workspace for generating and editing images, text, and designs in one place.

Sharing and cross-platform

  • Quick Share now works with AirDrop on iPhones, allowing direct file transfers between Galaxy and Apple devices.
  • Partial screen recording: record only a selected portion of the screen rather than the full display.

Samsung DeX improvements

  • Full Quick Panel customization is now available in DeX mode.
  • Improved window management and multi-tasking in DeX.
  • Better app compatibility and stability on external displays.

Browser

  • Samsung Internet has been renamed and redesigned with a new interface and AI-assisted browsing features.

Rollout schedule

  • May 6, 2026: Galaxy S26 series (pre-installed); Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, S25 Edge in South Korea.
  • May 11, 2026: Global rollout to Galaxy S25 series begins.
  • Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7: rollout expected May to June 2026.
  • Galaxy S24 series and older eligible devices: rollout expected June to July 2026.

One UI 8 Stable

Android 16 BasedSeptember 15, 2025

One UI 8 stable was first available on Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and Z Flip 7 FE at launch on July 9, 2025. The update then rolled out to Galaxy S25 series on September 15, 2025, followed by a phased rollout to over 40 Galaxy devices through October and November 2025. Built on Android 16, One UI 8 focuses on refining Galaxy AI tools, improving productivity features, and strengthening privacy and security rather than a visual overhaul.

Galaxy AI

  • Now Brief: personalized daily suggestions and actions based on your routines, schedule, and usage patterns. Can also control hardware like the flashlight.
  • Gemini Live: real-time multimodal AI conversations with support for screen sharing and image uploads for context.
  • Gemini AI Agent: multi-app task control; Gemini can complete tasks by operating across different apps on your behalf.
  • Circle to Search upgrades: AI follow-up questions within search results; in-game strategy assistance that can identify in-game objects and display related tips.
  • AI Select improvements: faster selection with no lag; sketch-to-image conversion from the Edge Panel using S Pen or finger.
  • AI Reply Suggestions: smart AI-generated reply options available in messaging apps.
  • Drawing Assist: adds grid lines, symmetry guides, and AI sketch-to-image conversion for drawings.
  • Auto Trim: AI automatically identifies and removes unnecessary segments from your videos.
  • Audio Eraser: removes specific background sounds or isolates a chosen audio source in videos and recordings; available in Gallery app; expanded to Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6.
  • Photo Assist for Pets: converts pet photos into AI art styles via Portrait Studio.
  • AI Sticker: generate custom stickers from text descriptions for use in messages.
  • SmartThings Status Summary: AI-generated overview of your connected home devices including health and connectivity status.

Communication

  • Live Translate: real-time translation during phone calls.
  • Call Transcript and Summary: automatic transcription and AI-generated summary of recorded calls with optional on-device processing.
  • Call Captions: real-time speech-to-text during calls for accessibility.
  • Profile Card: simplified contact card creation with name and photo sharing.

Camera

  • Log Video Recording expanded from Galaxy S25 to older foldable models including Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6.
  • Quick Controls Gesture: swipe up or down in the camera app to instantly access camera settings.

Productivity and files

  • Quick Share now has a dedicated Quick Settings tile for fast file sending and receiving.
  • My Files improvements: filter downloaded files by source app in the Downloaded and Recent views.
  • Samsung DeX improvements: WQHD resolution support on external monitors and TVs; 90, 180, and 270-degree rotation support; improved full-screen video switching.
  • Split Screen: minimize one app to the side edge while working in the other; tap to switch between the two apps quickly.
  • Modes and Routines: new weather-based preset routines; new routine actions that pull data from Clock, Calendar, and Samsung Notes.

Reminders and Calendar

  • Reminders redesign: category tabs at the top with reminder counts at a glance; pre-built templates; bottom input bar with suggestions plus checklist, location, image, and voice input support.
  • Calendar improvements: create reminders directly from the Calendar app; intelligent event name and time suggestions based on your usage history.

Samsung Health

  • Distance Challenges: compete with friends on running distance goals.
  • Food Logging Reminders: notifications that track progress toward your daily calorie goal.

Design and UI changes

  • Dynamic lock screen clock: size and position change automatically based on notification content.
  • Three new lock screen clock styles.
  • Encircled buttons in pop-out menus in apps like Gallery.
  • New blur background effect in select system UI contexts.
  • Redesigned Samsung Internet browser with a reorganized menu layout and customizable interface options.

Security and privacy

  • Secure Folder upgrades: app hiding, notification blocking, and complete encryption options.

Accessibility

  • Assistant Menu Zoom: adjust the button size using dedicated buttons rather than single-finger drag.
  • Keyboard Mouse Control: use a physical keyboard to operate the on-screen mouse pointer.
  • Keyboard Magnification: larger on-screen keyboard option.
  • Hearing Aid Pairing: connect Bluetooth hearing aids directly through Settings.

Connectivity

  • Auracast QR Integration: connect to Bluetooth audio broadcasts by scanning a QR code.

Other additions

  • Alarm Groups Widget: control and add to alarm groups from the home screen.
  • Weather app gets enhanced realistic imagery for current conditions.
  • Settings Search now supports natural language queries.

Removed features

  • Bootloader unlocking (OEM Unlock) has been removed across all devices updated to One UI 8. The developer option is no longer present. This affects all regions. Samsung has not officially explained the decision.

One UI 8 Stable - Device Rollout

Phased RolloutJuly 2025 - November 2025

One UI 8 rolled out to over 40 Samsung Galaxy devices in a phased schedule across July through November 2025. The Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 launched with it pre-installed. The Galaxy S25 series received it in September, followed by the S24, S23, A-series, and Tab devices through October and November.

Beta 7

Final BetaSeptember 8, 2025

Beta 7 was the last build before stable, focused entirely on fixing remaining visual and UI bugs. The beta program ended on September 15, 2025, the same day the stable update launched for Galaxy S25 series.

Beta 6

Beta 6 was a stability-focused build with general bug fixes and system improvements. Samsung did not publish a detailed item-by-item changelog for this build publicly.

Beta 5

Security Patch UpdateAugust 19, 2025

Beta 5 brought the August 2025 security patch and additional bug fixes. It was approximately 1.78 GB in size and did not introduce new features. Samsung focused on further stabilizing the OS ahead of the stable release.

Beta 4

DeX and AI FixesJuly 30, 2025

Beta 4 added a small number of new capabilities alongside its bug fixes, including emergency IMS service support and DeX full-screen improvements. Several Galaxy AI and Bixby issues were also resolved.

  • Emergency IMS Service pop-up: users now see a consent prompt when emergency IMS service is activated.
  • DeX full-screen switching during video playback is now supported.

Beta 3

Beta 3 was approximately 1.2 GB and addressed several UI and input issues discovered in earlier builds. A previously removed feature was also restored in this build.

Beta 2

Beta 2 arrived two weeks after the initial preview and addressed the most commonly reported issues from Beta 1, including Secure Folder problems, Bluetooth issues in vehicles, and several visual bugs.

Beta 1 opened the One UI 8 public beta program for Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra in South Korea, the USA, the UK, and Germany. It was the first public look at One UI 8 running on Android 16 and introduced the core feature set including Galaxy AI upgrades, the redesigned Reminders app, Gemini Live, and the productivity and camera improvements that would carry through to stable.
