Privacy Policy
What we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
Last updated: October 26, 2026
Overview
This policy covers TechPP Insights at techpp.app ("TechPP", "we", "us"). It explains what information we collect when you visit, comment, join the community or get notifications, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have. The site is free to read and is supported by ads.
Your choices at a glance
- California and other US states: use the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link (shown below and in the footer to visitors in those states) to opt out of targeted advertising. We also treat a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser as that opt-out.
- EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland: nothing optional runs until you choose. When you first visit you can allow all, reject all, or pick categories, and change your choice any time with "Cookie settings" (below and at the bottom of every page).
- Everywhere else: analytics and embedded content are on by default. Turn off any category with "Cookie settings".
- Everywhere: you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and opt out of interest-based ads from many companies through the Digital Advertising Alliance and the Network Advertising Initiative.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Comments: the name, email address and comment you submit. Your name and comment are shown publicly; your email address is not.
- Community account: your email address, display name, handle, an optional bio, and what you post, vote on or follow. Your password is stored only as a one-way hash.
- Feedback: whether a page was helpful and any message you choose to add.
- Push notifications: if you turn them on, the subscription your browser creates for us to send them. It does not include your name or email.
- Emails to us: whatever you include when you contact us.
Information collected automatically
- Usage and device information: pages you view, links you click, how long you stay, your browser and device type, referring site, and approximate location (city or region) worked out from your IP address.
- IP address: used to keep the site secure and to stop spam and abuse. For community sign-ins we store it only as a one-way hash, together with your browser's user agent.
- Cookies and similar technologies: see "Cookies" below.
- Advertising information: our ad partners collect cookie and device identifiers, IP address, and information about the pages you view and the ads you see or click. See "Advertising" below.
How we use information
- To run the site and show you the pages, tools and trackers you ask for.
- To publish and moderate comments and community posts, and to run your community account.
- To send the notifications and account emails you ask for.
- To keep the site secure, and to prevent spam, fraud and abuse.
- To understand which content is popular and improve the site.
- To show ads, including personalised ads where the law allows and you haven't opted out, and to measure them.
- To comply with the law and respond to lawful requests.
Advertising
We show ads through NitroPay and its advertising partners, such as Google, Amazon, Magnite, Xandr and Criteo. When you visit, they may place or read cookies and similar technologies, and collect your IP address, device identifiers and information about the pages you view. They use it to choose which ads to show you, including ads based on your interests, to cap how often you see an ad, to measure results and to detect fraud. These companies handle this information under their own privacy policies.
Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. Learn more in how Google uses information from sites that use its services, and turn off personalised Google ads in My Ad Center.
In the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland, NitroPay's consent manager asks for your consent before advertising cookies are used for personalised ads. Under some US state laws, sharing this information with ad partners for targeted advertising counts as "selling" or "sharing" personal information. You can opt out as described in "Your choices at a glance".
How we share information
- Service providers who work for us: website hosting, Cloudflare (content delivery and security), Google Analytics, and our email provider for account emails.
- Advertising partners: NitroPay and the ad companies it works with, as described in "Advertising".
- The public: your comments, community posts, display name and handle.
- When required: to comply with the law, to protect our rights, users or the public, or as part of a merger or sale of the site.
We do not sell or rent your name or email address to anyone.
Your Rights & Do Not Sell/Share My Personal Information
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information, or the processing of your data for targeted/cross-context behavioral advertising.
1. Targeted Advertising & Third-Party Cookies
We use third-party advertising partners and analytics services that collect information (such as IP addresses, device identifiers, and browsing activity) via cookies and tracking technologies to display personalized advertisements. Under certain state laws, this disclosure of data may be considered a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information.
2. How to Exercise Your Opt-Out Rights
- Cookie Preference Center / Privacy Banner: You can manage or revoke your consent for targeted advertising cookies at any time by clicking the "Cookie Settings" or "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link located in the footer of our website.
- Global Privacy Control (GPC): We recognize Opt-Out Preference Signals such as the Global Privacy Control (GPC). If your browser or extension has GPC enabled, our system will automatically treat it as a request to opt out of cookie-based tracking and targeted advertising.
- Direct Requests: To submit an official request to opt out, access, or delete your data, please contact us at [email protected].
Your California privacy rights
If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, gives you the rights below. In the past 12 months we have collected these categories of personal information:
- Identifiers: name, email address, IP address, and cookie and device identifiers.
- Internet activity: pages viewed, interactions with the site, and ads seen or clicked.
- Approximate geolocation: worked out from your IP address.
- Inferences: interest profiles that ad partners build to choose ads.
- User content: comments, community posts and feedback.
We collect this from you, from your device, and from our ad and analytics partners, for the purposes in "How we use information". We disclose it to the service providers listed above for business purposes. We "sell" or "share" identifiers, internet activity, approximate geolocation and inferences with advertising partners for cross-context behavioural advertising. We don't collect sensitive personal information to infer anything about you, and we don't knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.
You have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, sell and share.
- Delete personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, using the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link or a Global Privacy Control signal.
- Not be treated differently for using any of these rights.
To make a request, email [email protected] with "California privacy request" in the subject. We'll confirm your request and verify it by asking you to reply from the email address linked to your data, then answer within 45 days. You can use an authorised agent, who must show us your signed permission.
Other US states
If you live in a US state with a consumer privacy law, such as Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas or Oregon, you may have the right to access, correct, delete and get a copy of your personal information, and to opt out of targeted advertising and the sale of your personal information. Use the opt-out link or a Global Privacy Control signal to opt out, and email [email protected] for anything else. If we turn down your request, you can appeal by replying to our answer, and we'll respond within the time your state's law sets.
EU, EEA, UK and Swiss visitors
We rely on these legal bases under the GDPR and UK GDPR:
- Consent: for performance, functional and advertising cookies, which you give or refuse in the cookie banner and can withdraw any time.
- Contract: to run your community account and send the notifications you sign up for.
- Legitimate interests: to keep the site secure, prevent spam and abuse, and publish comments.
- Legal obligation: where the law requires us to keep or disclose information.
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or move your personal information, to object to how we use it, and to withdraw consent at any time with "Cookie settings". You can also complain to your local data protection authority. Some of our providers process information outside your country, including in the United States; where they do, we rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep information
We keep information only as long as we need it for the purposes above. Comments and community posts stay until you or we remove them, and account information stays until you ask us to delete your account. Push subscriptions are removed when you turn notifications off or your browser stops accepting them. Analytics and advertising data are kept by those providers under their own retention policies.
Data security
All traffic to the site is encrypted with HTTPS. Passwords are stored only as one-way hashes, and the IP addresses we keep for community sign-ins are hashed too. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
Children's privacy
The site is not directed to children under 13, or under 16 in the EU and UK, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email [email protected] and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll post the new version on this page and change the "Last updated" date at the top.
