Google Gemini app is changing. Here are the biggest updates announced at Google I/O 2026

Google announced plenty of updates to its services and, along with Google Search, the Google Gemini app is also getting plenty of upgrades. Google says the focus is on three core areas including the new design, the new agentic experience and the availability of the latest Flash and Gemini Omni models directly on the Gemini app, along with updates to the Gemini Mac app. Here is everything that you need to know about coming to the Google Gemini app this year.

Gemini app gets a full redesign

Google announced a new design for the Gemini app called Neural Expressive. The app gets smoother animations, brighter colors, new typography, and haptic feedback. Google says the new design is rolling out globally on Android, iOS, and the web.

Gemini answers will look more visual now

Gemini will no longer show only long text answers. Google says responses can now appear as timelines, interactive images, embedded videos, and custom layouts. This should make answers easier to scan and understand.

Gemini Live gets a better experience

Google said Gemini Live is also being redesigned. It will open faster and appear directly inside the app. Google is also adding regional dialects, so users can choose voices and accents that feel more familiar.

Gemini Omni is coming to the Gemini app

Google is bringing Gemini Omni directly into the Gemini app for paid users. It can create and edit videos using text, images, and video inputs. Users can upload a video, add reference visuals, change the style, and even adjust the camera angle.

Gemini app gets Daily Brief

Google announced Daily Brief as a new Gemini agent. It creates a morning summary using Gmail, Calendar, Tasks, and other connected apps. It shows important updates, groups them by topic, and suggests the next step.

Gemini Spark is coming inside Gemini

Google announced Gemini Spark, a new personal AI agent inside Gemini. It can work in the background and complete tasks like drafting emails, creating Sheets trackers, making Slides decks, and organizing information from Google apps.

Gemini Spark can keep working even after you close your device

Google says Spark runs on dedicated Google Cloud virtual machines. This means it can continue working even if you close your laptop or put your phone away. The user still stays in control before important actions are completed.

Gemini Spark will support third-party apps

Google said Spark will support third-party tools through MCP. This will let Gemini work outside Google apps and complete more useful workflows across connected services, under user direction.

Gemini app gets more personal intelligence

Google said Gemini can use personal intelligence with connected apps like Gmail, Photos, and other Google services. This helps Gemini give more personalized recommendations, trip ideas, product suggestions, and daily help based on the user’s own context.

Gemini Mac app gets new voice features

Google showed new voice features for the Gemini Mac app. Users can select files in Finder, hold the function key, and speak instructions. Gemini can read selected PDFs and images, extract details, create tables, and draft emails from those files.
